Something in your business is costing you and it's not on any report
None of these show up as a line item. But every Australian SME leader we speak with can feel them in the pace of execution, in the energy of the room, in the gap between what the business should be doing and what it actually does.
That gap is almost always a culture problem. A culture that hasn’t kept pace with where the business is going.
Our approach as a Culture Mechanic is designed to fix exactly that. Practical culture diagnostics, advice, tune-ups and leadership coaching for growth-ready SMEs and European subsidiaries in Australia. All designed to strengthen how your business gets things done without changing what already works.
We also specialise in European, particularly German, owned subsidiaries navigating the gap between Headquarters expectations and Australian business realities.
What poor culture actually costs a business
Culture problems are not soft problems. They have a direct cost, which is rarely visible until it’s serious.
Think about what it costs when the wrong person is in a leadership role for 18 months before anyone acts. Or when your best operational manager leaves because the culture around them shifted after an acquisition. Or when your Australian team keeps trying to translate a strategy that Headquarters designed without understanding the nuances of the local market.
The individual incidents are manageable. The pattern is not.
In our experience working with SMEs across Australia, the real cost of poor culture shows up in:
- High turnover in roles that should retain good people
- Slow decision-making caused by unclear accountability or unresolved leadership/ management dynamics
- Failed or underperforming critical hires. Not because the person was wrong, but because the environment they entered wasn’t ready
- Conflict or silos between organisational teams that fester, grow and cause missed deadlines, workarounds and performance leakage
- Post-M&A or post-restructure friction that lingers long after the change itself is done
- A widening gap between what the business is capable of and what it actually delivers.
By the time these patterns are urgent to act on, they are expensive to reverse. Early culture diagnostics and targeted interventions almost always cost less than fixing it later.
What we do
Every engagement starts with a diagnosis. What comes next depends on what we find. Below are the five service products we use to address what the diagnostic reveals, individually or in combination.
Culture Diagnosis
A clear picture of where your culture is now, before you invest in changing it.
Every engagement starts here. The Culture Diagnosis is FPC’s diagnostic process: a structured, multi-stakeholder investigation into your culture’s current state: what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s quietly getting in the way of performance.
We collect real-time data from across your organisational ecosystem: leaders, managers, staff, and even customers and suppliers in some cases. The process combines qualitative and quantitative data to give you a comprehensive, independent picture of where your culture actually is, not where you assume it is.
The output is not a generic report. It is a specific analysis of the cultural patterns that show up across your business, what impact these are having and a prioritised action plan built from what the data reveals. Most clients tell us the debrief alone is worth the process, because seeing the insights clearly changes the conversation.
What you get
- Full Culture360 diagnostic report
- Clear picture of perceived versus actual culture and the impact on your business
- Prioritised list of the culture and behaviour factors most worth addressing
- Tailored action plan aligned to your business size and situation
- Facilitated debrief with your leadership team
Team Dynamic Workshops
Facilitated sessions that move teams from awareness to action in real business situations
People don’t change their behaviour by listening. They change it by doing, by practising new ways of working in conditions that are close enough to the real thing to stick. Our workshops are built on that principle.
We facilitate workshops for leadership teams, management teams, functional teams, cross-functional teams, hybrid and remote teams, and intercultural teams. Including teams navigating the German-Australian or broader European-Australian business context. Whether you’re working on how your team communicates under pressure, how they develop trust and navigate constructive debate, build accountability and cadence, how to bridge the gap between Headquarters culture and local execution, or how to build stronger interpersonal awareness across a diverse group, the workshop is built for that specific conversation.
All team dynamic workshops incorporate evidence-based, brain-friendly, practical and interactive elements with clear goals and defined outcomes.
Where relevant, Prism Brain Mapping diagnostics, connecting individual and team profiles provide a strong foundation for developing the awareness and strengths of the team. Participants come away understanding not just what they should do differently, but why they’ve been doing what they’ve been doing, and what it takes to change it sustainably.
What you get
- Facilitated workshop sessions (half-day, full-day, or multi-session) tailored to your team’s specific challenge
- Prism Brain Mapping individual and team profiles where relevant
- Practical tools and frameworks that participants can apply immediately
- Intercultural workshop option for teams navigating cross-cultural dynamics
- Post-workshop action summary with follow-up recommendations or coaching programs
Management Alignment
Getting your leadership team moving in the same direction and staying there.
Leadership teams are often the last to examine how they work together. Individual capability is high. Collective performance is not. The gap between the two shows up in slow decisions, unclear accountability, and a culture that doesn’t reflect the values of the whole team.
Management Alignment is a structured process for getting your senior team synced. Not just on strategy, but on how they lead, define success, make decisions, communicate, and what kind of culture they create by the way they operate day to day.
In practice, we typically begin with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) or Senior Leadership Team (SLT). We work through the diagnostic, the facilitated sessions, and the shared agreements at that level first. Then we extend the work to the management layer below. All so alignment doesn’t sit only at the top, but is actively carried by the people responsible for executing it day to day.
This two-layer approach is particularly valuable after a leadership change, an acquisition, a restructure, or a period of rapid growth. These are moments when old alignment assumptions no longer hold, and new ones haven’t been built yet. Starting at the top ensures that what cascades down is intentional.
What you get
- Culture Diagnostics applied at ELT/SLT level, then extended to the management team
- Individual Prism Brain Mapping profiles for each team member at both levels
- Facilitated sessions for the ELT/SLT, and separately for the management layer below
- Shared agreements on ways of working, decision-making, and communication norms
- Follow-up coaching support for individual leaders at both levels
Coaching & Mentoring
One-on-one support for managers navigating real challenges in real time.
Leadership and management are not static skill sets. Coaching and mentoring give leaders the space and support to work through those challenges with an experienced, independent partner who has no stake in the outcome other than the leader’s growth.
Our coaching engagements are deeply tailored. They start with a clear understanding of the leader/manager’s situation, their behavioural patterns, and the culture they’re operating in. We use neuroscience-based models and evidence-based tools to ensure that insights translate into real behaviour change.
We coach Australian SME leaders and managers navigating growth, transition, or new demands. We also specialise in intercultural coaching for international and expatriate leaders who need to adapt their leadership style to a new cultural environment quickly.
In 2019, 90% of German business managers and executives we interviewed said they had underestimated key communication and leadership style differences in their first 6–12 months in Australia. Our intercultural coaching is designed to close that gap, fast.
What you get
- Individual coaching programme (typically 6–12 months, structured around your situation)
- Prism Brain Mapping profile as the coaching baseline
- Neuroscience and evidence-based frameworks for sustainable behaviour change
- Intercultural coaching option for leaders new to the Australian or German-Australian business context
- Mentoring option for emerging leaders who need a sounding board more than structured coaching
Skill-based Training
Building the capabilities your people need to perform across your organisation.
Workshops are about how a team works together, the shared ways of operating. Skill-based Training is a different question entirely: what do your people need to be better at? We build programmes from the ground up around that answer. For team leaders and managers, specialist professionals, and frontline leaders across Australia. The content is built around your actual context, so participants can apply it from day one without having to translate generic frameworks into their real work.
Common focus areas include adaptive leadership, new management fundamentals, communication and feedback skills, coaching and developing others, brain-based performance habits, intercultural competence, resilience and trust, and navigating change. Programmes can also be designed as a structured learning stream that supports broader culture tune-up goals identified in a Culture Snapshot.
What you get
- Bespoke training programme designed around your team’s actual challenges and skill gaps
- Multiple delivery formats: single session, modular series, or blended
- Practical, immediately applicable tools and techniques
- Facilitator notes and participant materials
- Optional follow-up coaching to embed learning and track behaviour change
- Can be designed as a standalone programme or integrated with a broader engagement
Diagnostic first. Action second.
We don’t arrive with a ready-made programme and slot your business into it. We find out what’s actually happening, then we design something that fits.
Who this is for
Our services are designed for leaders running organisations in motion. You’re not in crisis, but you’re not where you want to be either. Something in the way your people work together is getting in the way.
You’re likely one of these:
An MD or GM of an Australian SME
A leader of a European-owned subsidiary in Australia
A business going through growth, M&A, or transition
An HR or P&C leader who knows what the problem is
What our services look like in practice
A national services business with over 100 staff needed to raise the bar on leadership capability fast. Most of their team leaders and managers had come up through technical roles. They were experts in their field. Leading themselves and managing others was a different skill set entirely. One they hadn’t been given the tools to develop.
We designed and delivered a bespoke Team Leader programme across multiple structured sessions, built entirely around the real challenges those leaders were facing on the ground. What stood out was how readily the group embraced it. Technical people tend to be precise, curious, and results-oriented. So once they saw that leadership had its own frameworks, tools, and logic, they leaned in. The appetite for learning was there, but just needed the right environment and content to unlock it.
The result: leaders were putting techniques into practice immediately. Internal conversations became more open, structured, and accountable. The culture shifted because the people in it were better equipped to lead.

Frequently asked questions
What is a culture diagnostic?
A culture diagnostic is a structured process for finding out what’s really going on in your organisation. How people work together, where the friction points are, and what’s driving (or undermining) performance. FPC uses the Culture360 diagnostic: a multi-stakeholder survey and analysis process that gives you a clear, specific picture of your culture, with a prioritised action plan built from what it reveals.
What is our approach as a Culture Mechanic?
A Culture Mechanic approach is a targeted intervention based on what a culture diagnostic reveals, designed to fix what’s getting in the way without overhauling what works. It might be a leadership programme, a facilitated team session, a coaching engagement, or a combination. The key difference from generic culture programmes: it starts with diagnosis, not a set programme.
How do I know if my business needs a culture diagnostic?
Common signs include: high turnover in roles that should retain good people, a leadership hire that hasn’t landed the way you expected, team dynamics that are subtly off but hard to name, or a gap between what the business is capable of and what it actually delivers. If you can feel something isn’t right but can’t easily articulate what it is, that’s often a sign that a culture diagnostic would be useful.
How long does an engagement take?
Culture change is a process, not an event. A full engagement typically runs in phases of around 6 months each. With a review at the end of each phase to measure progress against goals, adapt the approach, and shape what comes next. Over 12 to 24 months, that cycle of diagnosis, action, and review is what creates lasting change rather than a short-term improvement that fades.
That said, not every engagement is long-term from the start. Individual services ( a Culture Snapshot, Workshop series, or Skill-based Training programme) can be delivered as shorter, standalone commitments. A targeted tune-up doesn’t require a 24-month contract. Many clients begin with a single service, see what it reveals, and build from there.
What shapes the timeline is always what the diagnostic finds and what the business needs. We’ll be clear about that from the first conversation.
Do you work with European subsidiaries in Australia?
Yes, this is one of FPC’s areas of specialisation. We work regularly with German-owned and other European subsidiaries operating in Australia. We understand the Headquarters–local market dynamic from both sides, and we help bridge it practically: aligning leadership expectations, navigating intercultural friction, and building the local culture that makes execution smooth.
We're a small business. Is this for us?
Yes. FPC works with SMEs from around 20 to 250 employees across Australia. Our diagnostic and consulting approach is designed to be proportionate, not corporate-heavy or built for organisations ten times your size. We engage with the decision-maker directly, which means faster and better outcomes.
What’s the difference between Coaching & Mentoring and Skill-based Training?
Coaching & Mentoring is one-on-one and tailored to the individual leader. Skill-based Training is programme-based and designed for a team or group, focused on building specific capabilities. They often work well together: training builds team-wide skills, coaching embeds them in individual practice.
Where is FPC based?
FPC is based in Sydney, Australia, and works with SMEs and European subsidiaries across Australia and New Zealand. We have a flexible delivery: in-person or virtual.
How much does a Culture Mechanics engagement cost?
Pricing is tailored to what each engagement actually involves. There’s no standard rate card, because what each business needs is genuinely different. A standalone Workshop or Skill-based Training programme is a significantly different investment to a multi-phase engagement. What shapes the cost is the scope: how many people are involved, which products are part of the programme, and whether it’s a one-off tune-up or a longer culture change process.
The starting point is a conversation. Once we understand your situation, we’ll give you a clear picture of what’s involved and what it costs, before you commit to anything.
Talk to a Culture Mechanic in Sydney
Culture issues rarely announce themselves. They accumulate in the turnover rate, the gap between strategy and execution, the way the room feels when fear overrides trust, conversations are not had, the fish is not put on the table and the wrong people are in the wrong place.
If you’re an Australian SME leader sensing something is off, or you know exactly what the problem is and need a partner to help you act on it, let’s talk.
